Camp Open House, (914)366-7898, ext. 103, jcconthehudson.org. An opportunity for families to visit the Henry Kaufman Campgrounds, home of JCC Country Day, for grades 1-6, Super Seniors ages 11-13, and Camp BaShemesh for children ages 6-14 with special needs. 5/4.

Special Mothers Day Class, Clay Art Center, 40 Beech St., Port Chester. This Helping Hands— Special Mothers Day Class is a one-day workshop inviting children and the special adults in their lives, whether it be a parent, grandparent, nanny or family friend, to pair up and create magical memories together by working on a clay project to be fired and later picked up. The class is appropriate for children ages 5-11 and it includes all materials and firing. 5/11, 1-4pm.

Mamapalooza, Kenisco Dam Plaza, Valhalla. Mamapalooza is a festival celebrating women, mothers and families in the Westchester area. Experience bands with moms who rock, hip hop and African drumming by Youth Theatre Interactions, empowering workshops, Tot Rock and action for kids of all ages, fitness activities with Be Fit Mobile, marketplace shopping, and health and wellness screenings. 19th Annual Shad Fest & Hudson River Celebration, Boscobel Restoration, 1601 Route 9D, Garrison, (800)21-RIVER, ext. 231, www.riverkeeper.org. The Shad Fest marks the late spring or “lilac” run of the American Shad, and it’s a day filled with activities, entertainment, education and great food and wine. 5/18, noon-5pm.

An opportunity to become an advocate for children with special healthcare needs and their families. The South Salem Presbyterian Church hosts an old-fashioned Memorial Day country fair on Visitors can browse crafts and plants for sale and enjoy a silent auction, children’s games, and a food and bake sale. Wolves of North America, Wolf Conservation Center, South Salem, (914)763-2372. Learn about the mythology, biology and ecology of wolves in North America, and visit with the Ambassador wolves. Pre-reg. req. EVENING HOWL– Enjoy visiting the wolves during their favorite hour–dusk. The evening begins with a wolf-related activity. MUSEUMS

The second Annual Explore-A-Thon Family Fundraiser, The Westchester Children’s Museum (WCM), www.discoverwcm.org, (914)412-5050. The second Annual Explore-A-Thon Family Fundraiser designed for children and their families, this event allows participants to enjoy interactive “Exploration Stations,” located along a one-mile route, that are modeled after exhibits to be housed at the future WCM. The Explore-A-Thon will take place on the boardwalk next to the historic Rye Playland Bathhouses, the site of the future Westchester Children’s Museum. Money raised will benefit the construction of the children’s museum, the first in Westchester. on 6/1, 9am-noon.

INTRODUCTION TO JUDAISM: A basic course for Jews looking for a deeper connection with their heritage, and non Jews considering conversion or looking to expand their appreciation of Judaism while remaining within their own faiths. This class helps people explore Judaism and define its place in their lives. Wednesdays, 8-9pm. INTER-SYNAGOGUE MEN’S BASKETBALL LEAGUE: Experience some spirited recreational play in this pick-up league at the JCC. Get back into shape so you can teach the kids basketball moves, or just come get away for some friendly exercise with the gang. Sundays, 8:45pm. YIDDISH VINKLE: Yiddish speakers (or dabblers) unite! Become a Volunteer, (866)VOL-CALL, www.volcenterwest.org. Westchester is looking for volunteers for its new Medical Reserves Corps (MRC). Members would be called upon for any large-scale emergency, natural disaster, public health event or bio-terrorism incident in the county. Volunteers might also contribute to existing local public health initiatives and participate in emergency response drills. The program, sponsored by the county’s Department of Emergency Services and The Volunteer Center of United Way, aims to recruit physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, infectious disease specialists, mental health professionals, physician assistants, paramedics and EMTs, public health workers and allied health professionals. ASSE International, a non-profit organization, is looking for local volunteer families to host high school exchange students from around the world. Respecting the distinctiveness of both Judaism and Christianity, the Interfaith Community provides programs for children, parents and families. Children’s classes, team-taught by a Jewish and a Christian educator, are held at several locations. Programs for adults include workshops and panels on parenting in an interfaith family, as well as seminars on different religions. Also available are events for celebrating holidays from each tradition.

Inspired by actress Gilda Radner, the organization provides free counseling groups, workshops and lectures to people living with cancer, their family and friends. Specific monthly groups also meet, such as for young adults suffering from cancer, those with particular diagnoses and those in post-treatment. Call to find out about meeting times.

Breast Cancer Support Groups, Support Connection Office, 360 Underhill Ave., Yorktown Heights, (914)962-6402. Led by trained facilitators who are breast cancer survivors, daytime and evening support groups connect those undergoing cancer treatment and those who have battled the disease. Call to learn more. Daytime groups: 1st and 3rd Thursday of every month, 11am. Evening groups: 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, 7pm.

Alzheimer’s Support Group, Wartburg Place, Off Exit 12 of The Hutchinson River Pkwy, Mt. Vernon, (914)513-5255. This free, twice monthly support group is sanctioned by the Alzheimer’s Association for those with a diagnosis of or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s disease. Hosted by a certified group member.

Rape Crisis Helpline, (914)345-9111; (800)726-4041. A 24-hour hotline that provides crisis intervention, information regarding your rights as a crime victim and referrals for counseling, support groups and other services. The Helpline also includes on-call victim advocates at hospitals, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners Program and rape prevention education.
