The NYU Summer Program for Kids is a unique
and innovative therapeutic summer day program
geared specifically to meet the needs of 7-11
year old youngsters with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity
Disorder. The NYU Summer Program for Kids, located
at Riverdale Country School, is an 8-week, all
day therapeutic camp utilizing state of the
art treatment approaches that facilitate children’s
improvement in many aspects of life. The key
to the program’s success lies in its commitment
to and understanding of the unique problems
children with ADHD face. Children are helped
to improve their social behavior, friendship
skills, problem solving skills, academic competence,
sports competence, classroom and home behavior,
and anger control. These goals are achieved
through the child’s participation in the
full sports program, arts and crafts, academic
enrichment/remediation, computer assisted learning
and social skills training. Weekly specialized
parent training helps to improve parent child
relations. Their excellent staff to child ratio
of one to every one to two children, enables
the NYU Summer Program to make the summer a
productive and fun experience for each child.
Counselors are psychology undergraduate/graduate
students who are supervised by clinical psychologists.
Licensed teachers conduct the academic learning
centers. The NYU Summer Program is directed
by Howard Abikoff, Ph.D., a nationally renowned
ADHD expert, and Director of the Institute for
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity and Related
Disorders at the NYU Child Study Center. Enrollment
is limited.
