The Visual Arts Camp (VAC) at the Spence School is a day camp for boys and girls in grades 5-11. The VAC offers classes in various media, from the traditional areas of sculpture and painting to classes in newer media such as video and digital arts. The VAC gives children the opportunity to explore their artistic talent in an exclusively visual arts setting. A series of advanced studio classes gives students in grades 8 and up the opportunity to explore their ideas and creativity at a more intense level through independent projects with support from VAC teaching artists. Campers build their own schedules from a comprehensive roster of classes. The VAC also offers informative and engaging group discussions on important movements in art history. The program includes visiting artist talks where campers can meet professional artists, writers and designers. Field trips give campers the opportunity to visit world-class museums and galleries throughout New York City. The summer concludes with the VAC Art Fair and Studio Exhibition. The studio exhibition showcases the independent projects created in the advanced studio program. The VAC Art Fair includes work made by campers in all of the various art classes offered during the four-week term. A video showcase and fashion show round out the excitement!
