A microcosm of a near perfect world in which all campers flourish through a healthy mix of play and community-oriented experiences, Camp Wingate*Kirkland has served as a summer home to children for almost 50 years. At the traditional, co-ed camp, the 175 campers attending benefit from endless opportunities to engage with children of all ages through the Big Brother/Big Sister program and Camper Choice and evening activities. Campers also spend ample time with kids their own age in the bunk, the dining hall and at group activities, whether on the waterfront or the sports field. Camp W*K limits enrollment to 175 boys and girls to forge deep bonds with campers and help them thrive in their journey through childhood and adolescence. Over 85 percent of the staff are former W*K campers, ensuring the continuity of rich traditions like Sunday Balancing, the Track Meet, W*K Carnival and Banquet. Because of Camp W*K’s location on Elisha’s Pond in Massachusetts, there’s plenty to do in the “backyard”— Cape Cod. At least once a week, campers explore the Cape with visits to the Cape’s brilliant beaches, the Cape Cod Rail Trail for biking, and excursions to whale watching and historical sites. Back at Camp W*K, everyone gathers nightly at Evening Forum to discuss the day’s highlights, praise fellow campers and staff and share ideas for making Camp W*K better. It’s not easy to think of a way to improve Camp W*K, however, especially after being entertained during a camper performance, winning a scavenger hunt or singing songs with your best friends around the campfire. Camp W*K— the way summer is supposed to be!
