Universal Camping is a co-educational sleepaway camp for children ages 8-15 nestled in the grandfathers of the Catskills. This 100-acre campus is equipped with spacious cabin tents, indoor sleeping quarters and an Olympic-sized pool located nearby at Mine Kill State Park. The setting is exceptionally noteworthy for its historical and prehistoric significance as outlined in many articles and books that have appeared in such publications as The New York Times. Campers will experience an enriching program of recreational activities, academics and fine arts, including educational trips to historical places. Sports include tennis, archery, soccer, softball, football, basketball, track, field hockey and karate. The Tae Kwon Do program is fully accredited by the World Martial Arts Association. All are taught as team building exercises, and at the same time are used to develop individual skills. Traditional field games that have for years been enjoyed by children will also be played. Games for the younger ones include Capture the Flag, Running Bases, Freeze Tag, Team Handball and more. Art skills will be developed from beginner to intermediate. More advanced artists will be given some incredible mountain scenery for landscaped work. Campers will also draw; trace; use pastels, oils and acrylics; and practice cartooning. Professional music lessons are given in guitar, piano, drums, band performance, chorale and more. And let the role play begin! From simple skits to award-winning interactives, the magic of the theater comes alive everyday and has often been the most talked about part of Universal Camping’s summer program. For more information or to register your child for a summer filled with nature and knowledge, please call the number above.
