City Lights Youth Theatre offers students ages 3-19 after school and weekend theater arts classes as well as opportunities to perform in full-scale productions. Since 1991, City Lights’ process-oriented classes, productions and in-school residencies have brought together New York City youth from diverse backgrounds in the development and performance of theater. In each of their age-appropriate classes, professional teaching artists create a nurturing and supportive environment that encourages risk-taking and promotes the discovery of individual strengths. Their ability to challenge students as actors is quite evident in their 2008 productions of Pippin and The Crucible, as well as their Spring Performance Festival. Fall and spring semester classes are available in acting, musical theater, playwriting and production, and every course culminates in a staged presentation for family and friends. For more information, or to request a brochure, please call (212)262-0200 or visit the Web site. Financial aid is readily available for any child who demonstrates need.
