The motivated corps of cadets, or student body, at this leading college preparatory school with a military tradition, achieves academic excellence, while developing superior athletic, leadership and character skills. In sum, New York Military Academy (NYMA) cadets attain the talents and drive to excel at top colleges, as well as in life, positioned in top careers. Located about one hour north from New York City and nestled in the Hudson Highlands, NYMA enrolls students in grades 7-12. All cadets benefit from small classes— typically each class has ten students— led by a devoted, highly trained faculty. A mentoring program that functions with parental involvement enhances the academic curriculum as does the mandatory Character Counts program, which teaches respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, fairness, citizenship and caring. While the vast cultural diversity at NYMA reinforces how cadets learn to relate well with people of all backgrounds, the Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) program ensures the corps of cadets values teamwork and the privilege to lead. In addition, an intensive college placement program administered by the school’s guidance department keeps cadets on the right academic track and helps place students in some of the country’s most selective colleges and universities. Drive, determination, leadership and above all academics— that defines NYMA cadets, the leaders of tomorrow.
