Get ready for some edge-of-your-seat entertainment. The inspiring performances developed by the 74-year-old nonprofit arts organization, New Dance Group (NDG), promise to be more awe-inspiring than ever. What’s spurring the change? A move to a new, 21,000-square-foot studio being completely rehauled to cater to New York City’s first multicultural dance school and company. NDG conducts an eclectic array of semester classes in it’s Taking Stages Program, which is a progressive training curriculum for 4–18 year olds that nurtures individual artistic and technical growth through classes focused in dance, acting and music. The program ranges from Stage I, offering a ballet and tap combination for children ages 4-5, to Stage IV, offering instruction in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, musical theater, acting and voice, for kids ages 14-18. For kids desiring to hone their performance talents to strut their stuff on prestigious stages and at major events— including the Times Square Christmas tree lighting ceremony— NDG leads Times Square KIDZ, a group devoted to 8-18 year olds. While participants in TS KIDZ live their dreams of pleasing audiences at acclaimed venues, they gain confidence and realize practical applications of furthering their performance skills.
