A private, Christian, boarding and day, college preparatory school located on the beautiful North Shore of Long Island, The Stony Brook School was founded in 1922 with the motto “Character Before Career.” Stony Brook seeks to cultivate virtuous people who use their hearts and intellect to contribute to their learning. The program at Stony Brook includes a top-notch academic curriculum with a focus on spiritual development as well as an emphasis on the visual and performing arts. The student body participates in a competitive group of athletic teams. Students’ varied interests are fostered, which is a key reason why the 7-12th grade students at Stony Brook love to learn and continue their education at prestigious colleges and universities. Small class sizes, led by an experienced and devoted faculty, distinguish the classrooms at Stony Brook. The curriculum itself is a rigorous college preparatory program, offering 17 Advanced Placement (AP) classes, with an emphasis on the relationship between academic disciplines. Taught to think critically and independently, students are also encouraged to ask questions while learning to work well with their peers and developing themselves into leaders of the vibrant community known as The Stony Brook School, which more than 330 diverse students are proud to call home.
