The Studio School
124A W. 95th St.
NYC 10025
(212)678-2416

The Studio School, founded in 1971, is an independent day school serving preschoolers through 8th graders. The School’s approach blends an understanding of adolescent development with a thorough knowledge of how children learn. The program at Studio was developed to recognize and develop each child’s unique and innate intelligence and creativity. Students learn to value intellectual and creative ideas and to take pleasure in the process of discovery. Through the School’s interdisciplinary curricula, students learn to take responsibility for themselves and their work, pursue independent research, develop teamwork and contribute to their community. As they transition into middle school, students benefit greatly from small classes and seminars that are carefully designed to meet the distinct talents and interests of this age group. In classroom discussion groups, they learn to articulate their thoughts and enjoy a healthy exchange of ideas. Studio students attain high levels of analytic and abstract thinking through a vigorous, in-depth curriculum. Middle schoolers also take classes and seminars, such as Philology and Rhetoric, Studio Players, Library Research and Tutorial, which are intended to enhance and broaden their knowledge of the basic disciplines. In fall 2006, The Studio School will move into its new home at 115-117 W. 95th St. Some highlights of the new building are spacious classrooms, a multimedia library, gymnasium, science lab, art and music studios, and a rooftop garden.
